How do WundaSmart Radiator Heads work and what is PID?
Do you notice that your room temperature briefly rises slightly above your set temperature after installing a WundaSmart Radiator Head? There's no need to worry. This is normal behaviour and is part of how the system achieves accurate and efficient temperature control.
Why does it happen?
When your room needs heating, the Smart Radiator Head opens the radiator valve to allow hot water to flow through the radiator. This helps warm the room as quickly as possible.
However, radiators have thermal inertia. Even after the valve starts to close, the radiator remains hot and continues releasing heat into the room. This stored heat can cause the room temperature to rise slightly above the target temperature during the first heating cycles.
WundaSmart PID Control
Every Wunda Smart Radiator Head uses WundaSmart PID Control—our own implementation of the proven Proportional–Integral–Derivative (PID) control method. This algorithm has been developed and optimised specifically for the WundaSmart heating system, taking into account the behaviour of radiators, room characteristics, and the communication between WundaSmart devices.
Unlike a simple thermostat that only switches heating on and off, Wunda Smart PID Control continuously analyses how your room responds to heating and precisely adjusts the radiator valve to maintain the desired temperature.
As the system observes each heating cycle, it automatically fine-tunes its control strategy, reducing temperature fluctuations and keeping the room much closer to your chosen set temperature.

Do I need to do anything?
